About Louise

I have been in private practice for the last ten years working with individuals, couples, children, families and groups. Trained as a family therapist at U.B.C., my experience encompasses both children and adults and prior to this I was a teacher.

My registration is with the B.C. Association of Clinical Counsellors, the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis and the B.C. Association of Play Therapy. As a family counsellor I work with a variety of problems but my areas of specialty are hypnotherapy for children and adults and shyness.

Whenever possible, brief therapy is used, and clients' goals are clearly defined in the initial interview. A time frame is set, and self-help exercises are incorporated so that individuals can continue working on their own outside therapy.

The type of problems dealt with include:

  • Couple Conflict and Relationship Issues
  • Parenting Concerns
  • Habit Disorders (nailbiting, hair pulling, thumb sucking)
  • Enuresis (bed wetting)
  • Anxiety (general , specific, test) Fears, Phobias
  • P.T.S.D.(Posttraumatic Stress Disorder)
  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Anger Management
  • Grief
  • Pain, Headaches

I use Satir (a communication model) as my framework, but am eclectic in nature, utilizing aspects of other therapies when needed. These include Gestalt, Morita, Adlerian, Cognitive-Behavioral, Hypnotherapy and EMDR.

Hypnotherapy is a very useful tool which promotes healing and helps treat a variety of problems including anxiety, fears, phobias, low self-esteem, anger, depression, pain management, insomnia, enuresis, habit disorders, concentration, smoking cessation.

Shyness groups for teens and adults are held four times a year and run for a six weeks duration. Group size is deliberately kept small(no more than 10 per group) so individuals are encourage to sign up early by telephone.

Dates vary depending upon demand.
